A year ago, I was riding my bike
down a set of steep hills near some
loca backroads and all of a sudden,
the handlebars were vibrating like
crazy and my vision and line of site
was a blur. Next thing I knew a collection
of medium and small branches was right
in front of my face in an instant,
with no time to think about getting
out of the way. I felt the impact
shock on my goggles, and then realised
I was on the ground looking up.
My decision to wear eye protection
was not a natural one - growing up
riding without helmets, padding and
eyewear was not condusive to fun riding.
It wasn't something I worried much
about, until my sister suffered a
similar incident, only without the
eyewear. Her right eye's vision is
impared and probably will never return
to 100% - something we all take for
granted. Since then, I have notticed
that my eyewear has protected me from
branches and bugs quite a few times,
in fact, more times than I have ever
had to clean my helmet from scrapes
and the helmet thing is the first
thing we drill into everyones safety
focus, right?.
So if you don't have eye protection,
do yourself a huge favor and get some
before you ride next. They're cheap
and effective, plus they look pretty
decent. If you ride in heavily shaded
areas like forests drops or woods,
get clear or yellow wrap arounds fromyou
local sporting shop.Yellows are great
for daylight hours, but get another
pair of clear glasses for late day,
early evening rides.
Don't take your eyes for granted.
Eye safety is something most people
take for granted - until it is too
late. This website is here to allow
people to ask questions about general
eye care and vision issues. If you
have a question, please submit it
to us and we will add it to our pages
and if you feel you can answer other
people's questions, then we encourage
full participation!
Thank you and enjoy!
